Close to 700 Macintosh enthusiasts descended on Cerritos College over two huge days this past weekend, November 3-4th for the Southern California MacFair 2006. Neil Ticktin, Editor-in-Chief & Publisher, MacTech Magazine, delivered the Keynote Address to an over capacity crowd. The event brought together over 40 Mac related companies, 28 Mac seminars and 15 intensive Mac workshops. This years event included: Peter Mellow, senior lecturer at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand and winner of the Apple Outstanding Tertiary Educator Award and a presentation from Arthur Maddalena, lead Mac genius at Apple computer with an overview of the known features and benefits of the new Mac OS X Leopard. "We were honored to host the event for the fifth year in row," stated Jose Anaya, Director of Economic Development for Cerritos College. "We are proud to provide our state of the art facilities to an event that is so well received by the Mac community." In addition, once again this year the Southern California MacFair 2006 made arrangements to provide attendees free disposal of their old computer equipment including monitors, CPU, fax machines, printers, servers, phone systems and virtually any office electronics product. Attendees disposed of over 4.5 tons (9,000 pounds) of electronic waste at this years event. "We are thrilled that in the past three years, SoCal MacFair attendees properly disposed of over 17.5 tons (35,000 pounds) of their obsolete electronics and that their old Macs didn't end up in landfills," said Keith Mueller, the show's organizer. Exhibitors and Seminar presenters were equally thrilled at the huge outpouring from the Mac Community. "The caliber of attendees at this years event was outstanding," stated Scott Immerman S.E.A.L. Systems. "The seminars that I taught, were greatly enhanced by the quality of questions and participation level of attendees. Keep up the great work, see you next year." "Having the same team for 5 years has made the event run very smoothly. Cerritos College is the best centralized location for people from LA and OC equally. In the beginners and experts seminars the seats were full and the helpful suggestions flowed," said Claire Lemire, beginners and experts seminars presenter. "It was a pleasure to be able to take part in a great community based event. Congratulations on a job well done," said Neil Ticktin, Editor-in-Chief/Publisher, MacTech Magazine.
